Being diagnosed with a chronic disease can make one feel as if our life has been turned upside down-and-out of control. But, acquiring the right knowledge is really powerful

We worry when we are in the dark as to what to expect, and sometimes what we think can be far worse than what really happens.

It is, therefore, best to learn everything we can about the disease by learning we feel more in control of our life and our health again

The treatment we get can affect every area of our lives, so while we can live well with kidney failure it will not be by accident but by a conscious effort on our part.

Some of us become worried and stressed out when we get a diagnosis of kidney disease. But not everyone that is diagnosed with kidney disease will need dialysis or a kidney transplant.

What are the kidneys

The kidneys are two organs that are found just below the rib cage on either side of the spine they are shaped like a bean and is  the size of a clenched fist.

When the kidneys are healthy they usually filter about a half cup of blood per minute, and their functions are to remove waste and extra water to make urine. The urine then flows to the bladder via two tubes made up of muscles which known as the ureters, these tubes are located on the sides of the bladder
